Hill Climb Events
Contributed By: Enginebasics.com
While typical style racing around a closed course is exciting, there are other forms of racing that are starting to become popular. One type is called “hill climb”. Hill Climb events are a lot like rally style events in that they can have stages, and you are racing against the clock, not against other cars on the “track”. The beauty of hill climb events is that they are held on public roads. These are roads that you have already paid for and maintain with your tax dollars. Because of this, these events can be a cheaper form of racing than what you would find at a typical racetrack.
Hill Climb events, just like other forms of racing, are divided up into classes based on power, drive-train, and weight of vehicle or vehicle type. This keeps the field very even and competitive for the participants. Currently Hill Climb style events are popular in the U.K., but are starting to gain traction in the U.S. It is our hope that more Hill Climb events start popping up around the wonderfully curvy roads we have here in the States.
One of our favorite videos has to be the coverage of the Swiss Hill climb event championship. The variety of cars and just how CLEAN some of these racecars are is incredible. These guys are not taking it easy either. While the video is long, it is well worth all of your time so be sure to watch the whole thing. You will even see some super rare cars like Lancia delta S4’s, and Peugeot 208 cars. Enjoy this exciting video and please send us more excellent hill climb videos like this to hopefully get this sport going here in the States.
